Goes Well With Gine Gine Fruit.

I acquired this tee shirt completely uncontested from ebay. For the most part I will avoid bidding wars on ebay. There are simply too many good finds in my thrift stores for that kind of nonsense. But if something is unique, and the price is right I may just place a bid. This tee shirt says bravo, and is dated 1984 just like the book.

Maybe You Lost.

A couple more of my recent wins on ebay. You can always tell when things have been dry in the thrift stores because I tend to be spending a lot of time on ebay. I have no idea whatsoever what I think about the bear sweatshirt, but it was 99 cents so who cares. As for the green mid 80s number, well, I already have it in fuschia so I suppose it just goes with the collection.

Winning Made Easy.

I just scored this sweet pullover on ebay. I probably paid a bit too much for it. I certainly paid more than I would have in a thrift store, but given a whisper of cheesy 80's graphics and I'm all over it. I'm not sure what that writing on the sleeve is. I've been told it will be sent off in today's post, and I am certainly looking forward to it.

Staying On The Bubble

I can't decide about these curtains. I have the bed spreads to go with them, but I just couldn't imagine hanging them on the wall. They might make a charming tablecloth. But what if someone spilled wine on them? People have a way of spilling wine. They are on ebay right now, and I just can't decide.

In An Absent Voice.

The Soviet Union decided it wanted to be friends. EMF was blaring on your radio and don't lie you know it was. SUVs came in only 5 varieties, and if you were like me you couldn't help but ponder on the nature of pan-androgynous sexuality. It was 1990 or maybe 1991, bit of a blur really, but benetton marked the era with these tee shirts. I'm not sure, well actually I am, but I like these better than the American Flag tees Old Navy started peddling, oh I don't know, the afternoon of September 11.

Better Make Do.

The United "something" of Benetton tees are quite enjoyable. They have many varieties and are from around 88'. I scored this one quite reasonably on ebay, and I was outbid on another. Alas. I'll make do with the United Machos Of Benetton for the time being, but I'm always on the lookout for more. I like this one for the deliciously effete greasers on the front. Great for kickin' around and also works well with jammies and a bowl of porridge.

It Is A Vision Quest After All.

This is how I like to roll the morning after a night of generous carousing. Just throw on the nearest vintage benetton cardigan over your flannels and you're steadily ahead of the curve. This one has charming distressings including only two remaining buttons and some moth holes going halfway up one arm. I have others in much better condition, but as I said this one was the nearest one. These pieces are steadfast and brilliant.

If I Can Wear It You Can Feel It.

The benetton multi-colored logo was a short lived affair. Introduced in late 1990 it lasted only a few seasons until benetton began offering the mono-chrome logo. This makes it highly collectible yet no one seems aware of its relative rarity making acquisition sometimes affordable. To give you an idea of its rarity, given the hundreds of pieces that I have only a few have this multi-color logo. So they are something I cherish.

I picked up this piece in bulk sale on ebay. It came with a similar tee with the mono-chrome logo. Although it pained me greatly I offered it as a present to a friend. But fate has a way of rewarding kindness. Said friend took to the gym and could consequently fit into this tee as well as he could the I "heart" Italia tee.

If you see someone trying to sell a tee with this logo while trying to pass it off ass vintage 80s, then they are quite mistaken for reasons I've already stated.

Sapphire Golden Moments.

Low quality and straight off the VHS. Not the commercial I would most like to post, but the nostalgia is still there, and that alone speaks oceans. Oh I'm going to miss Caladin so much!

You Like You Like.

The rugby is one of those classic pieces of sportswear that comes and goes. Comes and goes. Benetton catapulted the rugby to iconic status in the 80s with their classic green and blue striped rugby that spawned all manner of spin-offs from the similarly copyright infringing coca-cola rugby you could find at the jean barn to benetton's own line of ruby wear. Although I can't be sure when this rugby dates to it is from the short lived Rugby Benetton line most probably from the early 90s.

I have many benetton rugbies and I'll show more as I dig them out of storage.

Argyle is an even more classic look than the rugby. Although trendy in 05, and quickly giving way to fairaisle in 06' and now we seem to be in the midst of a tartan craze in 07, the argyle is something you will always be safe holding onto. This one dates from the mid 80s and I was fortunate to acquire it at the Northgate Deseret Industries whilst having my BMW serviced at Jiffy Lube. May she rest in peace.

Knitwear To Inspire The Marginal.

From the 88' spring/summer collection. My friend scored this on a recent trip to the Hollywood Goodwill. So I suppose that means I paid $1.99 for it. The mother lode! This one is a favorite of mine for lounging around the house, taking out the garbage, and doing various chores.

I grabbed this for one of my Italian friends on a trip to Value Village. He wore it for a brief spell, but then took to the gym and puffed himself up to the point of not fitting in it any longer so it comes back to me. The cut is a little more slim than the other tee. This tee comes from the early 90's and is devoid of any branding.

Of The Way We Were.

This was the first benetton jumper my mom bought me. It was one of my 7th grade back to school jumpers back in 1987. So I think it is fitting that this starts things off. This is from the Town Wear collection benetton launched in 1987. The original sweater was trashed ages ago, but I recently found this on ebay and couldn't resist. These are the pics from the listing. I'm yet to see the actual item, but I'm assured it's there. Unlike a lot of the vintage benetton in my collection this one is surprisingly wearable. I'm feeling stripes right now, and I'm hoping to pick up a nice Bless pin to pair with it.

In The Beginning There Was Tweed.

I've decided to start this blog dedicated to one of my most idle and quite frankly weird pursuits. You see I collect vintage benetton. Been doing it since July 2002, and I've amassed quite a collection. It all started when I found a stunning ecru v-neck circa 1986 at the Capitol Hill Value Village. It was in pristine condition, and since then I was hooked.

Finding the rare treat in thrift stores is the best part, but sometimes I just buy items off ebay. It's going to take some effort, but I'm going to use this blog to showcase some of my finds and my existing collection. Unless noted otherwise nothing on this blog is for sale so please do not ask.
